This large ensemble chamber work is scored for brass. It is lovingly dedicated to Dr. Keith Benjamin, Trumpet faculty, Conservatory of Music and Dance, University of Missouri-Kansas City along with his two sons, Cameron and Duncan Benjamin. Cameron recently lost his valiant battle with leukemia; his premature absence has created a vacuum in the lives of his family and friends.

The work opens in “natural minor-A” and moves through a series of key changes that evoke lots of emotion and swings in mood. The final section, Dirge, is in 6/4 time slowly moving at 20 beats per minute―with the dissonance of dark, somber chords melting into each other.

This emotion-packed chamber music is humbly dedicated to the citizens of Sweden after their country was attacked by international terrorists on December 11, 2010. We did a bit of research and discovered that the current King's Song (Kungssången) replaced the former King's Anthem, “God Preserve Our King,” (“Gud vår kung”) which used the melody of the British Royal Anthem, “God Save the King,”

composed by Carey (1687-1743).

We incorporated the public domain melody composed by Carey in the music as an attempt to, in some way, assuage the over riding feelings of rage and anger felt by the Swedish people over the unprovoked attack upon their country.
